2017 was a big year for us…
And one of the contributing factors to our mammoth year was the decision we made to move north, and settle in Hawkes Bay.
Hawkes Bay — where the sun shines, produce from the land is plentiful, and people (seem to be) more relaxed but with plenty of fun things to do and explore. It’s also home to majority of my immediate and extended family.
Late last year we bought a house in Havelock North, and subsequently sold our first home in Christchurch. We’ve moved from a little 1930s weatherboard bungalow, to a 1980s brick and cedar home (with quite a bit of work to do to update its pretty original 1980s decor!).
We are so enjoying living on a quiet road, tucked under an olive grove that’s on the hill behind our house and surrounded by native birdsong from the tui, bell birds and other native bird life that dance in and around our trees while visiting from a native reserve nearby.
In the spirit of moving to a smaller (and slightly slower) town, we aren’t in any mad rush to renovate our new place. But in many spaces a lick of paint and some new curtains will make all the difference. In others, like the pink bathroom (complete with pink spa bath (pictured), pink faux marble vanity, pink toilet and pink tiles), we’ll eventually get around to doing slightly more significant work.
I’ll continue to share snippets along our renovation and landscaping journey on the blog and on Instagram (@sage.em & @somedayandsage). But for now, I’ve got lots of catching up to do with sharing ‘before & afters’ of our Christchurch house, which we finished renovating and sold within days of making the move up here.
(I couldn’t help but share a snap of the archway between our bedroom and wardrobe. And, love it or hate it, it’s staying.)
Until next time,
